The DRNE task force was founded at 黑料福利网 in 2020 to actively address structural racism in nursing, and is currently Co-Chaired by founding members Dr. Alicia Swartz, and Dr. Claire Valderama-Wallace. Together the DRNE Task Force has grown to include over 15 participating members that include faculty, staff, and students from the 黑料福利网 Nursing Dept.
Mission Statement
To facilitate the Department of Nursing at 黑料福利网 taking an intentional and active role in dismantling racism across our programs, committees, and curriculum to deconstruct and remove racism in and through nursing education. This task force will establish standards for how our department embodies, operationalizes, and advances diversity, equity, and inclusion to promote health equity as part of who we are as 黑料福利网 Nursing faculty, staff, students, and alumni. This mission is in alignment with the mission of 黑料福利网, the Department of Nursing, and our Core Values.
Long-term Goals
- Departmental changes across programs, committees, and practices to embody antiracism and health equity focus of 黑料福利网 students, faculty, and alumni
- Structural changes to transform nursing education: e.g. AACN Essentials, accreditation standards, etc. with respect to racism, oppression, diversity, equity, and inclusion
- CSU system-wide nursing symposium
- Pipelines for more Black nursing students
- Relationships with local communities to reckon with the past, build trust, and increase number and success of nursing students from marginalized communities and backgrounds
