  • Relevant to: All Music majors taking applied lessons in composition or music production

    Composition / Music Production students have a separate jury/recital procedure than vocalist and instrumentalist. At the end of every semester, students meet with the composition faculty to review their portfolio. The work done throughout the semester, and the overall contents of the portfolio will determine retention and advancement within the program. Recital Credits

Music majors are required to attend twelve (12) music recitals each semester in which they are Music Major. 

  1. All Music Departments events you attend will count as one (1) credit.
  2. All Music Department events in which you creatively participate and/or perform will count as half (1/2) credit.

OneTap App

  • Students will record their own attendance by checking in and out with OneTap, using their personal device. You must check IN and OUT at the appropriate time (within 5 minutes from the start and end times of the event). Failing to do so will result in no credit for the event.
  • Look for the OneTap QR code on signs posted throughout the recital hall. Scanning the code will open a page and ask for a check-in code.
  • Your unique code consists of the digits in your NetID. For example if your NetID is ab1234, your check-in code is 1234.
  • You will be required to share your location, and take a photograph of yourself.
  • We suggest downloading the (available on iOS and Android), which will streamline the process for you.

Recital credits are cumulative PER ACADEMIC YEAR (Fall-Spring). If you don't make it to twenty four (24) between both semesters you will loose your credits for the year. This will seriously delay your graduation, please be proactive, we offer around 30 recitals, concerts, events a semester.

Be In Charge of your Academics

The course requirements for our programs are stated in the . Note that students graduate based on the catalog year they entered (archive catalogs can be accessed through the main Catalog webpage, top right).

Take charge of your education:

  1. Run your Degree Audit Report (DAR) in .  While this report is not an official graduation document, it can be a useful tool in helping to plan your course enrollment.  For information on how to access and interpret your Degree Audit Report, view our How to Access Your DAR handout.If you have questions about your DAR, Dr. Thiebaut or Dr. James can help with interpreting it when we meet.
    • Please note, the DAR is a great document to track GE requirements, but it won't necessarily track your Music Requirements perfectly. Make sure you always meet with your Major Advisor for up-to-date information on your Music Major Check.
  2. Meet with an academic General Education (GE) advisor to go over all non-major requirements (for undergraduate students). You can set up an appointment with them on (they will be listed on the right of your screen, in your "success team" list). 1st-year students, International Students and some transfer students will have different GE advisors listed.
  3. Ensure that all transfer credit completed is reflected on your record, and verify that your major (and any option or minor) is accurately listed on your record.
